A wonderful slice of life, beefsteak tomatoes are one of the most popular varieties among home gardeners. These beefsteaks are most often eaten raw and used extensively in sandwich preparation due in part to the slicability factor, if you will. Heirloom varieties include Brandywine and Mortgage Lifter. A great non-heirloom variety is called Big Beef, a hybrid Italian beefsteak that produces high yields of large 10-12 oz fruits known to have exceptional flavor.
