San Marzano Tomatoes were originally grown in the shadows of Mount Vesuvius near Naples, Italy. Often referred to as an heirloom variety, the San Marzano is the popular choice of among the most discriminating chefs as this plum-like cultivar is known to be the key ingredient in the world's finest tomato sauces and pastes. The flesh of this fine fruit is thicker and has fewer seeds while the taste is characterized as being more robust, sweeter and less acidic. Due to their high quality and origins from old Napoli, we will refer to the San Marzano as the official tomato of the "vera" (true) Pizza Napoletana. Bon appitite... Now that's Italian!
